Camp Theme
Created in partnership with the team of the “Réserve Africaine of Sigean”, this camp program has been designed to offer children a real and unique immersion experience in the heart of an exceptional zoo.
During your stay at the reserve will not only learn about many African and local animal species but you will also meet the people who work in the reserve and take care of them with passion en dedication. A Unique and enriching experience!
Activities
DAY 1: DISCOVERY OF THE PARK (Parcs de la Brousse et de la Savane africaine):
You will leave our holiday center in Leucate first thing in the morning by coach bus to the Reserve Africaine.
On arrival you will visit of the park by shuttle bus with a professional tour guide. Picnic in the Park.
In the afternoon, you will take a walk through the park (approx.. 2 hours) also with a guide who will teach you about all the animals living in the park (zebras, Rhinos, Bears, Lions etc…
DAY 2 : NATURE WORKSHOPS:
– Classification of the animals: Learn to recognize, identify, and classify each animal,
– The different species: Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Fish, Amphibians,
– Reproduction: Animals and their offspring.
– Picnic in the Park.
DAY 3 : TAKING CARE OF THE ANIMALS:
– Learn about the various diets of the animals
– Examine the types of teeth for eating, grazing and biting…Who eats who?..who eats what?
– Feeding of the animals: The Carnivores, Herbivores and Omnivores!
(Activities supervised by a professional instructor from the Park)
Other Activities
– Adventure Course « Parcours Aventure »: An adventure between sky and sea, Zip Lines, Monkey Bridges and Nets high in the trees…Great fun!
– Discovery and study of the local birds
– Hand fishing and Net fishing in the rocks and pools along the coast. A chance to catch small fish, crabs and sponges that can be brought back to the center and added to the Aquarium.
– Drift fishing in the lagoon :
Here the children will learn a typical local way of fishing called « La Pêche à la Caluche » a fisherman uses a boat to set the net 800 meters out to sea and the children who remain on the beach have to haul in the net, hopefully with fish, shellfish and crabs inside for dinner!
– Team sports, Big Games and Parties!
Choice of Field Trips
– Hiking trips on the « Leucatois Plateau »: On this classified nature reserve (Natura 2000) overlooking the sea, we will use our binoculars to carefully observe the birds living in this area…a big breath of fresh air!
– Visit to the Leucate Coast guard station.
In the French Mediterranean Sea, there are 19 stations used by the Navy to supervise air and sea activity (surveillance mission). The station of Leucate dominates a magnificent cliff; from there the children will be able to view the entire coast!
– Visit to local museums.
Camp Location: « CENTRE DE VACANCES DE LEUCATE »
3 buildings surrounded by 170 acres of land, offering rooms with 5 to 6 beds with shower facilities on each level (2 storeys high). A large dining-room divided in 3 areas (per age groups), 6 activity rooms, a show room and a small library as well as a circus tent and several playgrounds are there for the children to enjoy.
